Constitutional Law

Constitution is the Mother of All Laws

Lex Suprema — the supreme law of the land.

The Constitution of India is the foundation of the entire legal system. Every law, rule, regulation, policy, executive action and governmental power derives its authority from the Constitution and must remain within its limits.

When we say that the Constitution is the mother of all laws, we mean that no ordinary law can stand above it. If any law violates the Constitution, it loses its legal force to that extent.
